Annual Leadership Conference, Local Media

I like the idea of advertising the Leadership Conference to everyone. I would also like to see us focus even more on “growing moral and ethical leadership around the world” by reporting not just on Management Society activities but challenging every region and chapter to search in their own areas for examples of businesses exhibiting “moral and ethical leadership” and bring those reports to the conference.
I have been keeping an eye peeled on the local and national news for such stories and believe they are abundant. If we are truly going to become a national and international force for “moral and ethical leadership,” I think we need to start recognizing businesses both inside and outside of our own LDS/BYU/Management Society group.
Recently, as I have been starting a new chapter in Rancho Santa Margarita, I have contacted the local newspapers and found them to be very receptive to our story. In fact, one such paper told me that they have a policy of only printing positive news and refuse to print anything negative. I sent out a press release and it was published almost immediately. I believe this type of media and exposure outside of our own group builds credibility for us as an organization. I think if each chapter were to forget about the mainstream press and go to the local media, they would have a similar result. I would be interested in anyone’s comments.

Great idea! Perhaps in our Leadership Conference you could teach a little segment on the value of press/press releases. I really like this idea. Back many moons ago I wrote press releases when I worked on Capitol Hill — it is amazing how easy it is to get a newspaper or magazine to pick up a story if it is packaged right.
