Meet purposefully means that BYU Management Society members take accountability to ensure chapter events lead to fulfilling the vision. The following are some of the steering committee’s thoughts in regards to this cultural belief and how it might be measured. Please share with us your thoughts, examples of what this means, and how we might measure our progress in this regard.
- Explanation: All chapter events should be vision-focused on leadership and ethics rather than being just informational, entertaining or randomly planned. Selection of speakers should consider “what do we need to learn and who can teach us,” versus “who do we know.” Chapter leaders should ensure that speakers know about and understand the vision so they can relate their topics to that vision.
- Examples:
- Chapters can share information about excellent speakers and their availability, particularly through regional conference calls.
- Chapters create material with which to share information about the society and the vision with all speakers and visitors.
- Chapters can share information about excellent speakers and their availability, particularly through regional conference calls.
- Experiences:
- Evaluation:
- Percentage of events or presentations during the year that focused, at least in part, on the vision. TARGET: 50%
- Number of chapters completing a self-evaluation to insure the purposeful orientation of its activities.
- Percentage of events or presentations during the year that focused, at least in part, on the vision. TARGET: 50%

Each year, we have a wonderful Leadership Meeting for Leaders and volunteers in our chapters across the world. This year’s conference is planned for the dates of Oct. 2-3 (prior to General Conference.)
The proposed objectives for this meeting follow for any comments:
1. Motivate you to build your chapter and live the vision of “growing moral and ethical leadership around the world.”
2. Train you in topics vital to successful chapters.
3. Help you plan for your chapter’s future success.
4. Accelerate our progress as a Society.
5. Support the International Vision of the Society.
We welcome your comments as we plan and shape another great agenda!
One of my potential speakers asked for a list of proposed topics to help him get thinking. Does anyone have a list like this or know where one is. You can send it directly to my email if you can forward. thanks!
