Focus efforts means that BYU Management Society members focus their resources to grow moral and ethical leadership. The following are some of the steering committee’s thoughts in regards to this cultural belief and how it might be measured. Please share with us your thoughts, examples of what this means, and how we might measure our progress in this regard.
- Explanation: All programs and activities are aligned to accomplish our vision.
- Examples: Each chapter executive committee will ensure their programs are in-line with the vision through careful planning before and evaluation after events.
- Experiences: The Silicon Valley chapter presents each speaker with the book Integrity in Business, thus promoting the vision each time they have a seminar.
- Evaluation:
- Count the number of presentations where ethical leadership was a significant focus.
- Conduct a survey/self-evaluation at the end of the year or at the Leadership Conference, so leaders can evaluate their efforts to focus their chapter on the vision. Put a copy of the survey on the web after the conference for other chapter members to evaluate their chapter’s performance in a voluntary manner. TARGET: 75% of chapters.
- Count the number of presentations where ethical leadership was a significant focus.

Thanks for sharing these great thoughts that remind and inspire us to focus on the vision of the BYU Management Society. It would be great to see reports of the great work that is occurring around the world that support moral and ethical leadership.
Thanks to everyone who came to the Foucs Efforts discussion group. I appreciated your participation. We will have our collective ideas posted in a few weeks on the 2007 Leadership Conference notes. Please send me an email if you have another good experience in your chapter on “Focus Efforts.”
